Five March, Glasgow – The Spot I Keep Coming Back To
I’ve been coming to Five March for the past five years – sometimes on my own, sometimes with friends, always leaving with that warm, full feeling you only get from a place that knows how to feed you.
You’ll find it on Elderslie Street – blink and you might miss it, but once you’ve been, you’ll keep an eye out for that simple sign and those inviting, slightly weathered wooden tables outside.
Inside, it’s all calm, welcoming energy. Bare wood floors. A huge tree standing sentinel in the corner, leaves dusting the air. Muted colours. Soft lighting. It’s the kind of space you sink into.

The People Behind It
Five March is the work of three pals – Luke, Rory and Harry. You might know them from Morning Glory, their other spot just up the hill. That one’s all about brunch, bright plates and that sweet, slow start to the day.
Five March feels more grown-up – but never stuffy.
The Food That Keeps Me Coming Back
Let’s start with those Bloody Marys. They’re punchy, with just enough fire to chase off the Glasgow chill. You can taste the care – no pre-mixed nonsense here.
The crispy potatoes are legendary. Crunchy on the outside, fluffy inside, dusted with salty magic. I’ve been known to order a second plate before the first one’s gone.
On the latest menu, it’s the sharing pork that stands out. Generous slices of soft, well-seasoned meat, a slick of sauce that’s got just the right amount of richness. Perfect for pulling apart, fighting over the last bit with whoever you’re with.

The Menus – Always Evolving
The menu at Five March is small, seasonal and always shifting. It’s split into plates for sharing – which I love – so you never have to pick just one thing.
One visit might be all about a silky burrata, a tangle of fresh greens, maybe some citrus to cut through. Another time, it’s a bright, punchy ceviche that’s so fresh it feels like it’s still moving.
They’re not afraid of bold flavours – anchovies, smoky paprika, the bitter bite of radicchio. But it’s always balanced. Always comforting.
The drinks list is short and focused. Wines that lean natural, funky and bright. Local beers. Cocktails that show off the best of the spirits behind the bar – nothing fussy, nothing unnecessary.
A Spot That’s Been Recognised
It’s not just me who’s noticed. Five March has picked up nods from all the right places – featured in The Times’ best restaurants in Glasgow, and always cropping up on those ‘must-try’ lists that actually mean something.
What sets it apart isn’t just the food (though that’s a big part). It’s the feeling of the place – the kind of restaurant where you can be in and out in an hour, or spend the whole afternoon, whiling away time over plates that never seem to stop arriving.
Drooling over these Clams.
What Keeps Us Coming Back?
For me, it’s that blend of comfort and surprise. The Bloody Marys that make you feel like you’re back on your feet. The plates that come out of the kitchen with a kind of quiet confidence. The sense that it’s a place that belongs to Glasgow – not trying to be anything else.
It makes me think about what keeps us going back to certain places – those little spots that become part of your week, your year.
Is it the warmth of the welcome? The familiarity of those crispy potatoes? Or that sense of something new, every time you open the menu?
I’d love to hear what keeps you coming back to your favourite spots. Drop me a line – or better yet, meet me at Five March and we’ll split a plate of those potatoes.
